How to Get an Incident Report From Superior Grocers

Steps to ask Superior Grocers to preserve surveillance footage and to pursue the incident report after a fall.

IncidentReportArchive is not Superior Grocers. We are an independent service sponsored by ME Lawyers, APLC, a California personal injury law firm — not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Superior Grocers. The name is used only to describe where an incident happened.

Superior Grocers stores are built around busy fresh departments — big produce sections, service meat counters, hot food — and busy fresh departments are where grocery falls concentrate. Water from produce icing and misting, a dropped piece of fruit, drips near the hot-food cases, a just-mopped patch without a cone: any of these can put a shopper on the ground in a store that sees heavy foot traffic from open to close.

Superior Grocers is a Southern California-based chain, but like most sizable grocery operators it documents customer injuries and routes them into a claims process rather than resolving anything at the store counter. This page covers what happens to the incident report about your fall, and how to keep the store's cameras from erasing your best evidence.

What happens after you report a fall at Superior Grocers

Report the fall to an employee right away and ask for the manager on duty. The manager should complete an incident report capturing where you fell, what caused it, the time, and any witnesses — and you should independently capture the same things on your phone, including photos of the floor before it is mopped. Get the manager's name and ask how the incident will be documented and who will follow up.

From there, expect the matter to move to the company's claims side or its insurance carrier, as it does at most large chains. Someone may call you about the incident, sometimes asking for a recorded statement. Be polite, note the claim or reference number, and hold off on detailed statements until you have advice — early recorded answers, given while you are hurting, tend to get used against you later.

Why Superior Grocers won't just hand you the report — or the footage

The incident report is the company's internal record of an event that could become a claim, and stores do not hand those to customers. It has to be requested formally — and if the company declines, obtained through the legal process. The camera footage answers to a clock instead of a policy: store surveillance systems overwrite themselves on a rolling cycle, often days to a few weeks depending on the system. The recording that shows how long that water sat near the produce case is the heart of a grocery-store fall case, and it will not save itself.

What a preservation-of-evidence letter does

A preservation-of-evidence letter puts Superior Grocers on written notice to retain the incident report, all video of the fall and the hour before it, sweep and inspection logs, and the schedule of employees covering the department. That notice matters twice over: it stops the routine overwriting of footage, and it establishes a dated record that preservation was demanded — so if evidence later goes missing, the law lets that absence speak. Our service exists to help you make that demand quickly and then pursue the report and footage through the right channels. We never claim to have them; we make sure the store keeps them.

What to do right now

Get checked out medically today, and tell the provider exactly where and how you fell so the record connects your injuries to the store. Keep the shoes and clothes from that day, save your receipt, photograph your injuries as they develop, and write out your memory of the scene while it is sharp.

In California you generally have two years to bring an injury claim — but only days to weeks before the surveillance system recycles. Do not let a friendly follow-up call convince you there is no hurry. Send the preservation letter first, then work the claim. If you want help getting it out the door, reach out now.

Who answers a Superior Grocers claim

Superior Grocers is privately owned and Southern-California-focused. Its claims-handling structure is less publicly documented than the large national chains — here's what we could and couldn't verify.

Insurance posture
Superior Grocers does not appear on California's public registry of self-insured employers, which suggests it likely carries a conventional insurance policy rather than self-insuring — though that's an inference from the absence of a listing, not a confirmed fact.
Who adjusts the claim
No claims administrator could be independently verified. You may see other sites name one online — we won't repeat an unsourced claim, since naming the wrong company in a legal letter sends it nowhere useful.
Store format
Corporate-operated; privately owned, no franchise structure.
Evidence you can pull yourself
Superior Grocers has an app-based rewards program that ties purchases to your account — worth checking if you were signed up.

Because less is independently verifiable here, requesting the claims contact directly from the store — in writing — is part of the process rather than a fallback.
